Since I lost my dad three years ago, Father's Day has been a sad day, one to mourn and reflect. Spending the day remembering my dad and how special he was to me, to my brother, to my husband and to anyone who knew him...but then again every day is spent doing that.
Now looking back on all the things my dad did for me is easier and even more meaningful than ever. My kids have been blessed with the same gift I was, a dad who listens and plays and works and does everything for his family. So this Father's Day I am posting for Chris, also known as Da-da, daddy and even 'Fris'.
When I asked Austin why he thought daddy was the best daddy he told me, "Because he's my best friend." If only that could sum things up for all the blog readers the way it does for me. So here are a few more things that make Chris the best Da-da my kids could ask for.
why he's the best and we're the luckiest:
-because he takes camping trips in the basement with the tent set up, sleeping bags, lanterns and the sound machine set to 'forest'. He's still working on how we can make s'mores indoors.
-because when Austin has a bad dream he'll sleep on the floor of his bedroom to make sure he's alright unless Austin wants me, then he'll carry Austin into bed with me and return to Austin's room to sleep in his bed.
-because he appreciates that I nurse the babies but is a little sad he doesn't get to help out and feed them too.
-because he cried with me when our kids were born and was still able to tell the nurse Taylor's name when I was too choked up to even talk.
-because he takes Austin to the grocery store to do the shopping and lets him buy mommy flowers...every time.
-because he taught Austin to say "Mommy you're beautiful."
-because he'll hold Taylor on his chest for hours on end just so she won't cry.
-because he's up and out the door by 6am and home in time for dinner, commutes a minimum of 2 hours a day, always does bedtime(stories, tubby, tickling, giggling), studies for school after the kids go down and stays up well past midnight getting things done.
-because if nothing else is working when Taylor's fussing, Chris can sing "Twinkle, twinkle" with Austin and she stops the second she hears his voice.
-because no matter how bad his day has been he comes home in a great mood and always has a smile for his kids.
-because he remembers that I was daddy's little girl and won't have it any other way with Taylor.
-because he gives big hugs and kisses and 'they're the best.' --Austin
-because he knows I'm a better mom when I am working and supports my every dream.
